1.0.1 Installing For Windows

This page will walk you through installing Anaconda on a Windows computer. If you have a Mac, see the next page. If you have a different kind of computer, talk to your instructor.

If you already installed Anaconda, skip the 'Installing Anaconda on Windows' section and read 'Testing your Installation' below it.

Installing Anaconda on Windows

1. Go to this link and click the button to download Anaconda for Python 3.

2. Run the installer when it is done downloading and then follow the picture guide below

2.1 Start the installer

2.2 Agree to the license agreement.

      Feel free to read it if you like - I read it and I promise it isn't doing anything bad.

2.3 Select whether this will be for your account or all users on this computer

      If you are not sure, pick Just Me

2.4 Select a location for your install. The default it gives you is fine.

2.5 Make sure both of these boxes are checked before starting your install

      This is very important!

2.6 The install may take a while. Be patient!

2.7 When the install is done, hit Next to continue

2.8 You do not need to install VS Code

2.9 Uncheck these boxes before finishing. We will provide all the information you need

Testing your installation

1. Hit the Windows key and R at the same time to bring up the Run menu

    Type in cmd and click ok

2. This will open up the windows command prompt

    Yours will look very similar, but not identical

3. Type spyder into the command prompt and hit the ENTER key. Be patient - Spyder will open eventually

     Your window will look like this while it is opening.

4. Welcome to Spyder! Your installation was successful and you are ready to continue.
